FATE Brewing Expanding to Previous Avery Brewing Location

Fate Brewing Co LOGO2015 has been a big year for FATE Brewing Company located in Boulder, Colorado. The brand recently signed on with Elite Brands of Colorado for statewide distribution, released three new canned products and now has another big announcement to share.

The brewpub will increase its capacity with the expansion into the space that formerly housed Avery Brewing Company for over 21 years.

Since opening in February of 2013, FATE has built a solid footprint around the state and gone on to win many awards including a Gold Medal in the German Style Kölsch category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival for Laimas Kölsch Style Ale and a Bronze Medal in the Pro-Am category at the 2015 GABF for single hopped Citra IPA.

The beloved home of Avery since 1993, located at 5763 Arapahoe Ave in Boulder, will add much needed production capacity for the currently maxed out craft brewery.

“We increased our fermentation capability by over 80% at the end of 2014 in our existing space at the brewpub located at 1600 38th Street in Boulder,” said FATE Brewing Company owner Mike Lawinski “and that growth meant we met capacity in our current brewery footprint. The acquisition of the additional square footage and brewery equipment enables us to reward our loyal fans, the people who have loved our beer along the way and gotten us to where we are today.”

FATED, an exclusive brewery access program gives loyal fans access to special bottle releases only available and released to members. The $375 membership gets members over $500 worth of product, access and benefits including four 750mL bottles of the brewery’s most exclusive hand-signed member-only specialty release beer. The full list of benefits including members only gear can be found at FATEDbeer.com.

“No one outside the club will have access to these releases.” said FATE Brewing Company Head Brewer Jeff Griffith, “Plus the year long membership gets you discounts on beer and gear at the brewpub, first access to other specialty releases and much more.”

The Post Brewing Company presents Jack’s Benevolent Bash

On Sunday, August 2, The Post Brewing Company will host Jack’s Benevolent Bash, an annual event that benefits The Autism Society of Boulder County and The Jack Ferrigno Send a Kid to Camp Grant. Jack’s Benevolent Bash will bring together The POST’s chef, brewer, and restaurant friends from across the country to cook, eat, drink, and play together.

Jacks_Bash_1Chef Brett Smith of The POST created the Jack Ferrigno Send a Kid to Camp Grant in 2012 in honor of his dear friend John Ferrigno’s son Jack, who had autism and passed away due to a seizure disorder when he was only eight years old.  Over the last three years they have raised $75,000 to send over 150 developmentally challenged kids to fun, confidence-building summer camps.

“This is an incredible relief to the families we help,” says Smith. “Many of them are struggling financially because of exorbitant medical bills and they are worried about how to provide care for their children. The grants also give these kids a chance to do something they might not otherwise experience. Last year some kids rode horses, went rafting, learned to swim or just got a chance to play with other kids.”

Jack’s Benevolent Bash will run from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Koenig Center at the University of Colorado, 1202 University Avenue, in Boulder. The Adam Bodine Trio will play live music throughout and Bret Saunders from KBCO will MC the event. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased here: www.autismboulder.org/

This year’s raffle features some incredible prizes including a 5 day getaway to Saint John, US Virgin Islands; 2 tickets to Boston to see Kenney Chesney live in concert; and a 3 day whitewater rafting adventure for 2 in beautiful Buena Vista, Colorado.  Raffle tickets are  $10 apiece and can be purchased here: https://asbc.raffleready.com/jacks-benevolent-bash-raffle

Chefs slated to lend their culinary talents to this year’s Bash include:
•    Hosea Rosenberg (Blackbelly Market, Boulder)
•    Ian Clark (Bru Handbuilt Ales and Eats, Boulder)
•    Rick Betance (La Revolucion Taqueria, Louisville)
•    Drew Honness (Sweet Cow, Louisville, Boulder, Denver)
•    Jen Bush (Lucky’s Bake Shop, Boulder)
•    John Hinman (The Post Brewing Co, Lafayette)
•    Justin Goerich (Zolo Grill, Boulder)
•    Brett Smith (The Post Brewing Company & GoodBird Kitchen, Lafayette)
•    Jed Bednarski (Victory Farms, New York)
•    Mike Fortino (Zozo’s Ristorante, St. John USVI)
•    John Ferrigno (Zozo’s Ristorante, St. John USVI)

The following breweries will be pouring pints:
•    The Post Brewing Company, Lafayette
•    Avery Brewing Company, Boulder
•    Wonderland Brewing Company, Broomfield
•    Odd13 Brewing, Lafayette
•    Liquid Mechanics Brewing Company, Lafayette
•    BRU Handbuilt Ales, Boulder
•    Industrial Revolution Brewing Company, Erie

“The community involvement is amazing!” Says Smith. “Lots of local friends come to help as well as people from as far away as Saint John and New York. We all get together to have fun and support a great cause. It’s a perfect scenario.”

‘Beer Geeks’ TV Show to film breweries in Colorado

Beer Geeks TV Logo

Beer Geeks is a nationally syndicated television show that will air a 22 episode season, starting in September 2013. The creators of the show partnered with the creators and producers of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and host Michael Ferguson, Director of Brewing Operations for BJ’s restaurants. Beer Geeks will bring viewers inside breweries from all around the country.

There are a handful of Colorado breweries that will be featured on Beer Geeks. The Beer Geek crew is in Colorado profiling craft brewers in Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins for shows that will air this year. They will be profiling Avery Brewing Company, Denver Beer Company, Great Divide Brewing Company, New Belgium Brewing Company and Odell Brewing Company.

“Colorado is one of the nirvana areas for Geek Beerdom,” Ferguson said. “You can’t stumble and not run into a brewery here.”

In each weekly episode host Michael Ferguson, a pioneer and veteran of the craft beer world, (Director of brewing operations and beer training for BJ’s restaurants) will bring viewers along on a voyeuristic, inclusive and immersive road trip into the heart of the craft beer universe. Each episode will feature the inside story of the making some of the world’s most unique, interesting, even outrageous and bizarre brews.

“We’ll see what they’re doing, what ingredients and techniques they’re using, and then we’ll take their brews from tap to table, cooking with beer, and pairing meals with beer. But wait, this series doesn’t live just in the brewery. We’ll find ourselves at hop farms, berry brambles, pumpkin patches, caves, maple syrup sugaring houses, archaeological sites, monasteries and much more – a smorgasbord of locations that all lead back to the craft beers we’re making.” – BeerGeeks.TV

The premise of Beer Geeks sounds like a solid idea and the show should develop a good following among real-life beer geeks. It will be fun for beer enthusiasts around the country to find out about great beers from Colorado. It is a little suprising that only five Colorado breweries will be featured (there are well over 100 in the state). I guess that opens up the door for other great breweries to be featured in later seasons.
